GPA 4928 finaly ready!

Post by bobassel » Thu May 18, 2006 8:42 pm

After seven and a half month of restauration GPA 4928 is ready to drive
and sail again!!
Starting on oktober 1st and taking her completely apart now she is ready
again.
I hope for another 60 years :)
Yesterday I gave her her final paint coating and blue reg.nbr.

Looking back , it was a harder job than I expected to be!
Much more work and more costs than I thought!
And I must say that I started with a almost complete and sailing GPA.
I realise more than before the troubles you have to get your GPA
complete!
It is for me the nicest vehicle to drive and sail in but she is a nightmare
to work on
I'm very pleased to have her ready beside my early Ford GPW!

When the weather is better I'm gonna try her for a long tour in the water.

Succesfull first big swim tour with GPA 4928!

Post by bobassel » Sun May 21, 2006 3:45 pm

Now that she is ready I took GPA 4928 for her first big swimming tour.
She did it wonderfull!
Engine running perfect , temperature fine , no strange sounds and she was swimming like a fish in the water.
(But didn't go under!)
No bilge needed.
I took my wife and my welding mate (and assistent for the hard to reach places) with me on this first tour.
We drunk together a bottle of champagne to finish this restauration project
and baptize the GPA with her new American reg. nbr instead of the South African reg. nbr.

I like to thank everybody for help , assistance , information and especialy
my mate Peter , Mr G 504 for his help!
Finaly I want to thank my wife for all the patience she had with me working all the time in my shed.

Congratulations Bob, nice photos.

P.S. I hope your engine was switched off on the second photo, because the oil pressure gauge needle is on the 0 mark
