David,
My own one (GPA 7177) do not show too any evidence this kind of hook has been once welded to the dashboard.
It was present on my previous one (GPA 3403) ...
Maybe a field modification ?

No info at all about the GPA-3572, do you find her somewhere Robert ?

I would be of great interrest to share this story with us. Interresting to know if FOMOCO produced some extra hulls as spare ones or rejected some during the assembly for any reason.

My two cents, this front fuel tank is a post war civilian modification. I think that Army used its GPA as it.
After WWII, some GPA's hull were civilian cutted to become snowplugs, to have doors or such, some others even saw their pedals and steering changed from side to side.
