GPA 5386

Post by bobskinner » Wed Jan 24, 2007 12:34 pm

It's too cold to work outside today so I will try to put some pictures on the forum. I bought this GPA last year, it had been owned by the same family since 1966, They bought it from Thompson Doxey so I guess it is ex British? The DOD on the dash plate is 1 5 43, is this the 5th January or the 1st May? The engine number is GPA 11990. I need to get a test certificate (MOT) on it and then we shall see if it floats......

She seems to be a great one, congratulation.

You must also find her frame number stamped on the dash plate.

GPA-11990 DOD is from the 7th or the 8th of april 1943, this is for sure a batch of lend leased vehicles.

GPA-5386 is an early january 1943 one, yes, maybe the 5th.

The frame number is from the dash plate, I can't find the stamped number on the frame, I have looked where the book says it should be - nothing. The frame on this one is very good so the number should be there, perhaps you can post a photo sometime showing exactly where the number is. The frame on the other one is not so good so the number might be gone. Pity the engine is not a matching number but the British probably swapped things around during overhauls. So the DOD of 5th January 1943 will be correct.
Regards
Bob

The number stamped on top of the frame is not really at the same place than a Ford GPW. It is stamped between the left engine bracket and the front end of the frame, near the place where there is 2 rivits and and hole very close each other.

If this doesn't help :

I'm very interrested to have some close up pictures of the stamped data plate number, the engine number and the frame number of your GPA's to update my website data base about still existing vehicles.

Happy Birthday 5386! It is 70 years today since the D.O.D. of my GPA 5386, so happy birthday, 70 years old and still going strong. Here's to the next 70 years.
