GPA 7481

Post by storchski » Thu Mar 09, 2006 12:51 pm

Hello, I am Nathan Storch and live in Gracemere, Queensland, Australia. I am slowly restoring GPA 7481 for a family friend. It is in good shape with the hull rusty in the usual spots, has been converted to right hand drive but will go back to left. Engine and transmission have been rebuilt about 8 or so years ago so they will need a little attention. I think only some cosmetic thing are missing(hope) as it was onjly a rolling shell when I got it.

Nathan,

I would sure like to see HOW the previous person converted it to right-hand drive and maintain the hull integrity. There just does not seem to be enough room to do that. Anyways, just curious.

Thanks,

Donovan.

Hello Donovan, The conversion was done by cutting the steering wheel shaft off just above the steering box, a small cog welded top the small shaft left. The steering wheel and left over shaft also had a cog welded to it, this was then mounted on a bracket on the right side of the jeep and a motorbike/pushbike chain connected the to cogs. So no cutting or shutting to the hull only to the dash panel.

Nathan,

Thanks for the info. The way the other person did it makes a lot of sense now although it must have looked strange.

Again thanks for satisfying my curiosity.

Donovan.
