Carl I think your GPA dod 02-24-43 is with a radio suppression filter but not under the dash ,mine is from dod 01-18-43 and has a single filter at the right hand side.
You can see it when you look into the screen righthandside under the dash.
So not the one like they used on the willys jeep.
The early type gpa used this [ bob asselbergs] I think it is two weeks earlier then mine.
And that one is under the dash on the inside firewall.
I think a radio box is also added later with a fsmwo.

So i don't agree with Mitrhil.
:(

Peter,

I also agree with you, my GPA#8787 also has the surpressor on the place you mentioned and not under the dash. For the rest I agree with Mithril, push-pull type and radio connection box.

Untouched South-African GPA shows one under the dash (Tobe).

1942's Maintenance manual TM-10-1263 list part #GPW-18960 (Filter group + bracket assembly) with 6 wires ... See page 0600-67.

This is the manual for the early model so far you are ok :?
But there is also a late model manual and this has the other filter unit in it.
And the so called untouched GPA is a early model with the spare tyre in the middle [ the same as bob]
I have got serial 5755 everything matching [frame tub and engine]and it is a late model with the jerrycan holder and the tyre not in the middle fitted with an anchor.
I have got a copy off a few pages [also 600-67 ] from the manual so you can see for yourself. PETER

The large filter is also on page 74 of the spare parts manual (TM 10-1264 Oct 1942) and listed as GPW-18960-B "filter group + cover assembly".
This is the one screw on cover type ...

On page 0-2-6 of the Maintenance manual (1942's TM 10-1263), they shows another model (the one with hinge on cover).

I have a close up picture of great quality of the dashboard of an early GPA (5 data plates) and I can see the same filter but it is the 2 screws model with the rectangular Ford data plate on it ...

An it is the model with TOBE on cover on the south african GPA ...

So they used at least 4 kinds of this special part ...

Both these manuals are correct for the 10000 first GPA's.
