The developments of GPA 4928

Post by bobassel » Fri Dec 30, 2005 7:08 pm

Hello to you all
Here just at the end of 2005 the latest pictures of my restauration work
on GPA 4928.
I' ve got all the iron & welding work on the body ready!
I installed new ribbed bottum plates, the U-shaped profiles at the rear
from left and right side of the hull to the propellor tunnel.
And allso the profiles for the wooden floors at the rear.
I welded the original propellor tunnel plates and V- reinforcements.
I replaced the right "banana" (Thanks to Stephen Farrugia from Malta) and closed several (to my supprise),small holes.
Tomorrow (If posible) I like to install the chassis back in the hull.
I personaly like to do that next week but my wife insists to do so!!

Today, Dec. 31 I installed the chassis and started to bolt it in the hull.
Starting 1rst of Oktober and now within 3 monthts the "wedding" has taken place!

Bob,

Looks great. Could you tell me if you had problems mounting your generator? I have mine on but even with the generator all the way out resting on the engine mount I have too much slack in the belts. I wonder if I am missing something? Here are some pictures to show what I mean.

Generator problems

Post by bobassel » Sun Jan 01, 2006 7:05 pm

Hello Tony

I don't see things wrong on your engine or mountings.
On my engine I used the original fan belt ;gpa 45,46 in. and not a gpw type 44,1/8 in.
I have a clearance from +/- 1 cm from the oil dipstick and 1 cm from the engine mounting.(Indeed not much clearance
pharhaps you have used the copy v-belts who have some miner measurement differences from the original.( in my opinion.)
I think you have to experiment a little with your v-belt.
Hope this is some help for you!

Bob,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately my belt is an original right
out of one of my spare parts kits (sealed).
I may try another of my belts and or a GPW... indeed there is
not much room for adjustment.

Thanks,
Tony

Generator problems

Post by bobassel » Mon Jan 02, 2006 3:02 pm

Tony
A friend of mine has a good idea!!
Pharhaps you can bring some spacers between the generator bracket with the two bolts and the engine block.
Then you have more room for ajustment.

Bob,

Thanks for the suggestion... however I don't think it will work since the front mount for the generator is connected to the engine,
and can not be spaced away from the block... the generator mount
on the block is only for the rear generator mount, if you know what I mean... am I missing something?

Thanks,
Tony

Tony(you are just ahead of me)
You're right!! off cource ,I was thinking about this problem tonight
and than suddenly realised that the front support couldn't be removed!
So you have to try with other V- belts

Return of the pink panther

Post by bobassel » Tue Jan 03, 2006 10:14 pm

Today I received the seccond part of the sandblasted parts.
The sandblasting company used the same "epoxi primer" only
now a pink collour!
I used a pair of extra hands of a friend of mine to secure the chassis
in the hull.
This is not a pleasant job to do with all the rubbers seals between the parts and all the "castle" nuts and cotter pins. :x
I'm now spraying a lot of parts and the wheels and I'm hoping to get her back on her own feet again.

p.s. ,nice to see so many gpa owners come together on this forum!
