My GPA 5386, DOD 5th Jan 43 still has the small plates, it was in British service and I guess they did not implement all the modifications.

Bob,
So sorry about your accident, still it could have been worse, we forget how vulnerable we are in these vehicles, not only on the road but on the water as well. I hope you are well again soon and that your GPA gets the attention it deserves and quickly!
Best Wishes,
English Bob

Thanks for your comments chaps. I feel a bit of a fraud as it was a renovation not full restoration I have been doing on this one. The plan is to drive the GPA and DUKW to Arnhem for Amphib if all goes well. Mithril, here are photos of the data plate and the engine number, not very clear but I think...

GPA 5386 afloat

Hi guys, I finally got 5386 ready, so today I took it to the water and yes- it floated. Strange after 25 years with a DUKW but I am sure I will get used to it. A little water in the back, possibly the rudder gland, but everything seemed to work. See if we can make it to Amphib in July. Here are some...

Donovan,
Thanks for that, it may have been a British Army modification, I have put it all back together without the support so we shall see. I will be in Fullerton all next week, anywhere near you? If possible perhaps I could visit and see the project.

front driveshaft boot support

Hi All, Inside my front driveshaft boot (the hull seal) there was a double support made of 2 rings of sheet metal, it was corroded and broke up when unbolting the driveshaft. Is this a standard part? I do not see a reference to it in the manual or parts list. Do I need to make a replacement or is it...

THREE Gastanks! That is just being greedy, I've only got one between my 2 GPAs, I dream of getting another one.

Hi Leo, I bought one of the yellow fans from a Swede at Beltring last year, he said it was a Dodge fan, I thought I could modify it to use on the GPA. it fits but due to the reverse blade angle pulls air from the back of the engine towards the radiator (like the DUKW). Is it possible the Dodge engin...

Hello Everyone, I'm not getting obsessive about this, honest. But having had another look underneath, this time with my glasses on, I find there are 5 of the large plug holes, not 4 as I first thought and that also the drain plug in the rear drive shaft housing is the same as the 2 small hull plugs....

Here are the 2 plugs I now have, they are in steel and have a slight taper. The large one has a 1 inch square hole and measures 2 inches across flats on the hexagon. The small one has a 0.5 inch square hole and is 1 inch across flats on the hexagon. As far as I know they are original and are the one...

Having today looked under the good GPA I have found a small plug which is a smaller version of the other one I have. So there are 4 large and 2 small plugs in the bottom of the hull. I will get some made, I need 2 sets for myself. I will also need a set of the fittings the plugs screw into for the p...

Hull Bottom Plugs

Gentlemen, Some questions about hull bottom plugs. My new GPA had no plugs with it which will make the first swim an interesting experience. My project GPA had one plug which I have cleaned and attached photos. Is it correct? There is only a very slight taper on the thread and it is steel whereas al...

The frame number is from the dash plate, I can't find the stamped number on the frame, I have looked where the book says it should be - nothing. The frame on this one is very good so the number should be there, perhaps you can post a photo sometime showing exactly where the number is. The frame on t...

GPA 12777?

I have owned this GPA for nearly 20 years. It was brought into the UK in 1984 from Denmark where it had been used by the FALCK. I bought it as a long term restoration and have been gathering parts and am ready to start on it now. I have mounted the hull (and frame) in a rolling frame so that it can ...

GPA 5386

It's too cold to work outside today so I will try to put some pictures on the forum. I bought this GPA last year, it had been owned by the same family since 1966, They bought it from Thompson Doxey so I guess it is ex British? The DOD on the dash plate is 1 5 43, is this the 5th January or the 1st M...
