Re: new muffler

I went to a local custom exhaust manufacturer with my old exhaust and bilge pipes as patterns and he made me up a set and a muffler in stainless. Don't forget the pipe between the bilge pump and changeover valve has to have the nuts on it BEFORE the ends are flared. If you don't have all the old pip...

Re: new muffler

Re GPA muffler, I think Kerry at RR services in the UK had some nos mufflers. However I think the best solution is to get a complete exhaust system made up in stainless, same goes for all the bilge pipes. Once done you can forget them.I have done this with both my GPAs.

Steering shear pin

Good morning everyone, Last week I went shopping in the GPA (as one does). On attempting a left turn it would only turn a few degrees, no matter how hard the steering wheel was turned. Right was OK. I struggled it home and on investigation the cable had slipped off one of the pulleys in the rear and...

steering cable clamps

Good Morning everyone,
Does anyone have, or is reproducing the cast cable clamp rings (GPA3786) that secure the rudder cable to the steering column above the steering box. If not I will get some made.
Regards

Re: GPA 12777?

Hello all, I now have the restored hull and frame back from Dean Harvey and it looks pretty good to me. Regarding the frame number, I spoke to the man who imported it and he said that the paperwork on everything he imported from Denmark was always 100% correct so the chances are that this really is ...

Re: Oil in the Coolant.

Hi All, a little late but here is an update on this oil in the coolant thread. Since I changed the head gasket and flushed the system I have driven many miles and spent a lot of time on the water (Switzerland & Norway). I have to report that there is no more contamination in the coolant, it is a...

Re: Took my GPA for a Swim

Hello Tony, Firstly I must say that most of my amphib experience is with a DUKW (25 Years), however I think most of what I learnt ( much of it the hard way) also applies to the GPA. Regarding entering the water with the prop out, it was Jack Tomlin, a man with many years of experience with DUKWs who...

Re: Oil in the Coolant.

Jan, Luc, Thank you for your input. The link was very useful, the 'contamination' in the coolant looked exactly like the Dodge photo in the link. I have to say I am sure there is oil in the brown 'goo', it did not dry to a powder but stayed a slippery brown slime. I think Jan has a point with the he...

Re: Oil in the Coolant.

Hello Jan, Thank you for your thoughts, is it really possible that the head gasket can cause this? I have been told that there are no oilways to the top of the block so where would this oil come from? Are there any gaskets where the oil and coolant are close together, water pump for example. Otherwi...

Oil in the Coolant.

Hello out there, Perhaps someone can advise me on this one. For some time now I have had oil on top of the coolant in the radiator, which I have been ignoring hoping it would go away. However it does seem to be getting progressively worse and I plan to have the motor out at the end of the swimming s...

Re: Took my GPA for a Swim

Well done! Got there at last, there is nothing to compare with putting your amphib in the water for the first time after years of work (with one obvious exception), I remember the joy of swimming my DUKW after a long rebuild, making sure the welder was aboard at the time, if it was going down I want...

Re: GPA part 4867 versus 4860

Hi Leo, You are correct, the photo you show is the yoke that fits on the end of the marine propeller shaft, GPA4867. The yoke on the PTO, GPA 4860 has a shoulder on it for the oilseal. I had the same problem, however it is possible to have the yoke 4867 machined to take the oilseal, I had this done ...

Amphib 2009

Just a note for those of you who may not already know, this year's European amphib meeting is being held in England's Lake District from 8th - 15th August. We already have 10 GPAs entered, as well as many other amphibs. If you would like to bring your GPA to our meeting send me a PM with your email ...
